5. "Pigs on the Wing 2" (1:26)

Released - 23rd Jan 1977

Album Length - 41 Minutes

Inspired by George Orwell's "Animal Farm" this somewhat ignored Pink Floyd album preaches a message about injustice and greed. With the soft acoustics from Roger Waters in "Pigs on the wing" and in my opinion Gilmour's greatest guitar solos in "Dogs" this album is a must listen.

'Animals' is a personal favourite of mine especially because of its standout track "Dogs" there are few Pink Floyd songs which rival it. Political lyrics and mesmerising solos are what makes this album so unique and a must have for any vinyl collector. This progressive rock masterpiece gets a rating of  9 / 10.

Following their releases of "The Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You Were Here" its understandable why "Animals" is often overlooked by Pink Floyd fans however I believe "Animals" is up there with some of their best work. You can see how Floyd left the Syd Barrett Psychedelic rock era and transitioned into progressive rock as "Animals" tells a story about 1970's Britain and creates a powerful commentary on social injustice and the nature of power.

We've started the series strong this week with 'Animals' so please keep an eye on all our socials for more of the "What's Spinning" series, interviews and more. For a fan of this album I'd have to recommend "Physical Graffiti" - Led Zeppelin

About The Artist

Pink Floyd is a legendary British rock band formed in London in 1965, known for their ground-breaking sound and philosophical lyrics. The band’s classic line up included Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Nick Mason, and David Gilmour. They became pioneers of progressive and psychedelic rock, blending experimental music with deep social and political themes. Their albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and The Wall (1979) are among the best-selling and most influential records in history. Pink Floyd was celebrated for their elaborate live shows featuring innovative light displays and visual effects. Despite internal conflicts and line-up changes, their music continues to inspire generations and shape the evolution of modern rock.
